Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo

This drama is probably the best korean drama that I have ever seen. From the first episode, I was in a rollercoaster of emotions. I have not seen a korean drama with so much substance as Scarlet Heart. It is very obvious that every aspect of the plot is well-thought of. All of the cast were very good as well. Their acting is spectacular! You’ll just find yourself deeply immersed in the scene because everything is just so good. You’re going to laugh with them, cry with them and love with them. Every episode will get you hooked. I had to take a break in the last few episodes though. Things got really heavy near the end that I had to watch cute and fun stuff to buffer my emotions. This drama is just so close to perfection and will always be one of my favorites. Even if I think that the ending was a great ending, I would like to have a season 2. Even if the ending left me shocked and even if I think that it actually gives justice to the drama, I feel like Wang So and Hae Soo’s story shouldn’t end like that. Anyways, I highly recommend this drama to anyone!

The Final Battle

I just watched the season finale of Once Upon A Time entitled The Final Battle and I think that it was perfect. They ended this season pretty well. I’ve heard that they are planning to add one more season which will be more like a spin-off. I think it’s completely unnecessary. The Final Battle would have been a perfect season finale. I don’t think there can be a better ending. If they want to focus on the adult life of Henry, just make an entirely different show and make it a spin-off. I don’t think they should continue it as Season 7 of Once Upon A Time. Does it even make sense that there will be Once Upon A Time without Emma and Regina?

Two Worlds

Just recently watched W or Two Worlds and it was awesome! It was about Kang Chul and Yeon Joo. Oh Yeon Joo is a cardiothoracic surgeon whose father is Oh Seong Moo, the author of a popular Web Toon entitled W wherein Kang Chul is the main character. The story starts Oh Seong Moo, the author, decided to kill off the main character  and end W. For some reason, Oh Yeon Joo suddenly finds herself in a roof top in front of a bleeding. She was able to save his life. Then, she finds herself back in his father’s workplace. And the shocking part is, she saw that there is a new episode of the web toon. An episode where a character Oh Yeon Joo saves the main character’s life. That’s where the complication of Yeon Joo’s life began. From then, she keeps being dragged back into the world of the web toon.

W is a roller coaster of emotion! Your heart will flutter because of the cuteness of this two. Lee Jong Suk and Han Hyo Joo looks adorable! There were lots of times I cried too. Yeon Joo and Chul will go through some tough times and had to sacrifice a lot. The plot, for me, was great and unique too. I didn’t find any part boring and I’m always eager to start a new episode. Love this two and love the way the drama ended!

All the Bright Places

All the Bright PlacesAll the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

You have been in every way all that anyone could be.… If anybody could have saved me it would have been you.

All the Bright Places is about two broken teenagers- Violet and Finch- who met in one of the most unusual ways- at the top of the bell tower where Finch had to talk Violet off a ledge and save her. From then, Violet becomes Finch’s reason to stay Awake and not fall into the Asleep, a metaphor for his depressive episodes. Finch also helps Violet come to terms with her sister’s death. This book is about two people who wants and needs to be saved.

In many ways, I see this book as similar in other young adult contemporary books that I have read- two broken teenagers, adventure and a rollercoaster of emotion. Violet is a girl who belongs to the “popular” crowd but doesn’t really feel like herself around her peers. This kind of girl is actually repetitive for several young adult books. On the other hand, Finch is an “outsider” who doesn’t feel like he belong with anybody at all. Again, a typical boy in a young adult book. Violet and Finch also gets to go on an adventure for a school project. Another typical element. What’s different here is how mental disorders are depicted. What I find different here is how mental disorders are depicted. I don’t think I’ve ever understand mental health the way I did in this book. Another thing that’s different for me is that I desperately longed for a happy ending. In these kinds of books, I accept that the story may end tragically from the beginning or middle of book to save myself from more pain. In this book, I couldn’t do it. I let myself believe that this story may have a  happy ending after all.

In this end, this book left me heartbroken. It is a good read for it opens your eyes of the reality of some other peoples’ lives. Yes, Finch is a fictional character but there is someone out there who might be fighting to stay Awake just as Finch does. Maybe there is someone out there who is desperately searching for something to live for. Maybe that’s why the story ended the way it did. It’s not telling us that there’s nothing to be done. It’s telling us that we need to act for something to be done. It makes us think about all the ways things could have turn out differently. So maybe, in our real lives, we can be more attentive. We can seek more help. We can try harder not to give up on other people. Some say that this book does not focus on hope. And yes, I do agree. This book focuses on regrets. And for some, this is  a better fuel to act.

I just finished watching a KDrama titled Goblin, also known as Guardian: The Lonely and Great God a few days ago and it still stings. It’s such a great fantasy romance drama that I still find myself wondering about all the characters. Goblin ended in a way that I did not expect which made me both happy and sad. There are really cute scenes, especially the bromance. The first part of the drama is really cheerful and sweet. But along with the cuteness, Goblin is such a sad story

The Goblin, who has lived for more than 900 years, is immortal. His immortality is both a reward and punishment- punishment for all the lives he took being a General in the Goryeo Dynasty and reward for being loved by his people. He can only die and be at peace in the hands of the Goblin Bride who is the only one capable to pull out the sword from his chest which killed him all those years ago.

This was such a complicated and profound story which was pulled off by the great writing, cinematography and amazing actors. Kim Go-Eun was such an incredible actress I wanted to cry and smile with her throughout the drama.

This drama really left me broken and it’s been a while since I felt like this after a drama or a book.
